Heartland State Trail

Ride one of the first rail-to-trail projects in the country. The Heartland State Trail is a 49-mile multi-use paved trail between Park Rapids and Cass Lake. The 27-mile segment from Park Rapids to Walker features six access points with parking, numerous attractions along the way, and a parallel natural surface trail for horseback riding, hiking, and mountain biking.

Itasca State Park

Weave through the towering pines of Itasca’s old growth forest on six miles of paved bike trails on your way to the Mississippi Headwaters. Then, make a loop around Lake Itasca on the one-way Wilderness Drive using its special bike lane. With on-site equipment rentals including e-bikes and tandem bikes, everyone can experience the spectacular views of Itasca State Park on two wheels.

Paul Bunyan State Trail

For a longer ride, be sure to follow the Heartland Trail to where it connects to the Paul Bunyan State Trail between Akeley and Walker. This 110-mile trail travels from Crow Wing State Park in Brainerd to Lake Bemidji State Park and is the longest paved multi-use state trail in Minnesota.
